Report: Plaxico Burress Works Out For Patriots
FOXBORO (CBS) - Free-agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress will reportedly spend his 35th birthday working out with the New England Patriots.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Burress was on a plane Sunday headed for a local airport.
Burress, who turns 35 on August 12, managed to put together a respectable season last year for the Jets. He finished the 2011 season with 45 catches, 612 yards and eight touchdowns.
He missed the two previous years while serving time in prison.
Burress, who helped lead the New York Giants past the Patriots in the 2007 Super Bowl, was convicted on an illegal gun possession charge after he accidentally shot himself in the leg in 2008.
Schefter reported that Burress is unlikely to sign with the Patriots, as he is only "considered among the Patriots' list of emergency replacements."
