Report: Pierce May Get Night Off Against Bobcats

BOSTON (CBS) - With 20 games left in the season, the Boston Celtics will do their best to rest their veteran stars.

Kevin Garnett already got an evening off two weeks ago when the Celtics beat the Suns in Phoenix, and Paul Pierce may be next in line for a breather.

According to CSNNE.com, head coach Doc Rivers may opt to rest Paul Pierce Tuesday night when the Celtics face the Charlotte Bobcats.

Pierce leads the team in scoring with 18.7 points per game, and is the only Celtic to start all 62 games this season. He's averaged 20.8 points per game on 52-percent shooting in Boston's five games in March.

Should Pierce get the night off, that would pave the way for Jeff Green to start his second game of the season. Green started in place of Garnett in Phoenix, and scored a season-high 31 points with seven rebounds.

The Celtics are right back at it Wednesday night when they return to the TD Garden to face the Toronto Raptors, so giving either Pierce or Garnett (or both) the night off against the 13-50 Bobcats makes perfect sense for Rivers and the Celtics.
