Report: Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett Part Of Blockbuster Trade Talks Between Celtics, Nets
BOSTON (CBS) -- The NBA Draft takes place Thursday night, and the Boston Celtics appear to be very busy in the hours leading up to its start.
Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday afternoon (via Twitter) that the Celtics and Brooklyn Nets are in talks about a potential blockbuster deal involving C's captain Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.
The package Brooklyn would send in return, according to Wojnarowski, would be Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, Tornike Shengelia and three first-round picks.
Wojnarowski added that talks have not yet gotten to the point where the Celtics have talked to Garnett about waiving his no-trade clause, while also reporting a deal could not be completed until July 10.
Pierce, who will turn 36 in October, has one year and $15.3 million left on his contract. Garnett, 37, is due to make $11.5 next season and $12 million in 2013-14.
Humphries has $12 million due next season, the last on his contract, while Wallace is due $10.1 million for the next three seasons. Shengelia will make less than $800,000 next season.
Garnett's name had been closely tied to trade rumors regarding the Clippers for weeks, but NBA commissioner David Stern said he would not approve a trade of Garnett to L.A., due to it appearing to be a package deal with head coach Doc Rivers.
Wojnarowski later reported that the deal could include even more players, including either Jason Terry or Courtney Lee from Boston.
