Report: Patriots Trade A.J. Derby To Broncos For Fifth-Round Pick
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots and Broncos figure to once again be contenders for the AFC crown this season. But today, they are trade partners.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Patriots traded away tight end A.J. Derby in exchange for a draft pick from Denver.
Field Yates reported that the Patriots will receive the Broncos' fifth-round pick in next year's draft. (The Patriots are without their own fourth-round pick next year, due to the DeflateGate punishments, but they do own Seattle's fourth-rounder.)
Derby, 25, has played in four games this season but has not recorded any stats. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end was drafted last year out of Arkansas in the sixth round, but spent the season on injured reserve. In the preseason this summer, he caught 15 passes for 189 and a touchdown.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Patriots acquired linebacker Kyle Van Noy and a seventh-round pick in exchange for a sixth-round pick from the Detroit Lions.
