Patriots Release DL Albert Haynesworth
FOXBORO (CBS) - The Patriots released defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth on Tuesday, WBZ-TV's Steve Burton has confirmed.
The release comes two days after Haynesworth reportedly had a sideline confrontation with defensive coach Pepper Johnson during Sunday's game against the Giants.
Haynewsworth did not play for much of the second half of Sunday's game, but coach Bill Belichick said Monday that was a "rotation-related" decision and had nothing to do with the alleged altercation.
The Patriots will be on the hook for the rest of Haynesworth's salary this season (more than $700,000) if no one claims him off waivers before 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The Redskins traded Haynesworth to the Patriots before the season for a fifth round pick.
Haynesworth had three tackles in six games with the Patriots this season.
