Report: Patriots Called Eagles Regarding DeSean Jackson
BOSTON (CBS) -- The "arms race" in the AFC is far from over.
According to CSN Philly's Derrick Gunn, the Eagles have taken some phone calls from teams interested in acquiring wide receiver DeSean Jackson. And of those teams, according to the report, was New England.
The report was clear to state that the Eagles are not "actively shopping" Jackson but are nevertheless answering calls and engaging in discussions with teams, including the 49ers as well.
The price tag for Jackson would be a third-round pick "and potentially more," according to the report.
Jackson is due to make $10.25 million this season.
Jackson, 27, set career highs in receptions (82), receiving yards (1,332) and touchdowns (9) last season for the Eagles, his sixth in the NFL. In his career, he's averaged 59 receptions, 1,020 yards and five touchdowns per season. His name has been floated in trade rumors for some time, leading to Jackson reportedly being "troubled" about his uncertain future with the team.
The Patriots have added cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, and they've also signed receiver Brandon LaFell and re-signed receiver Julian Edelman. Out in Denver, the Broncos have added cornerback Aqib Talib, receiver Emmanuel Sanders, safety T.J. Ward and defensive end DeMarcus Ware in an offseason free-agency battle for AFC supremacy that began rather loudly and doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.
