Report: Mass. General Settles 'Alarm Fatigue' Death Lawsuit
BOSTON (CBS) - Massachusetts General Hospital has settled a lawsuit with the family of an 89-year-old man who died in January of 2010, when nurses did not answer the call to an alarm on the man's cardiac monitor.
The settlement was reached last May, according to the Boston Globe.
However, those involved have not discussed the settlement until now.
The family settled for $850,000.
The case focused on what is called "alarm fatigue," when hospital staff tune out frequent alarms.
