Report: Mario Williams Will Sign With Bills
BOSTON (CBS) -- The landscape of the AFC East is about to change dramatically.
After days of discussions, Mario Williams will sign with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Williams, 27, could be in line for perhaps the richest contract in football history, given the way tens of millions of dollars have been handed out to free agents already this free-agency season.
In five full seasons (plus five games this year) with the Texans, Williams has 192 tackles, 53 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Williams visited with the Bills on Tuesday, when free agency officially began in the NFL.
He'll now join a defense that ranked 26th in the NFL in yards allowed, 29th in points allowed and 27th in sacks. They began the season with a 5-2 record, outscoring opponents by an average score of 30-21. However they finished the season 1-8, giving up 32 points per game from Weeks 9-17.
Williams' decision to join the Bills is at least somewhat surprising. The Bills haven't made the playoffs since 1999 and have gone 76-116 since 2000.
