Report: Jets 'Prepared' To Seriously Pursue Peyton Manning
BOSTON (CBS) -- Is New York City is home to more than 8 million people, but is it big enough for two Mannings?
It may have to be, as Newsday's Bob Glauber reports Wednesday morning that the "Jets are prepared to make a serious run" at expected free-agent-to-be Peyton Manning. Glauber cites two sources "familiar with the situation."
Manning, who turns 36 at the end of the month, is expected to be released by the Colts on Wednesday, letting the team off the hook for the $28 million it would have owed him if he remained on the roster. He's undergone several neck surgeries and his health remains a question mark at this point, but that likely won't limit teams from showing interest in one of the best quarterbacks in football history.
If the Jets were to aggressively try to sign Manning, it would almost certainly be an admission that Mark Sanchez, for whom the Jets traded a first- and second-round pick, is not the man for the job.
The report also said the Jets "are intrigued by the possibility" of signing Colts free-agent receiver Reggie Wayne.
