Report: Horton Likely Out For Season
BOSTON (CBS) -- It is the news that everyone has pretty much expected but hoped not to hear -- Nathan Horton is likely out for the season, according to CSNNE's Joe Haggerty.
Citing a source, Haggerty reported that while the team has not made any decisions regarding officially shutting down Horton for the season, the 26-year-old is not close to returning to the ice. With just six games remaining in the regular season, and with Horton out of game action since mid-January, the writing is on the wall.
Horton suffered a concussion after a hit from Philadelphia's Tom Sestito on Jan. 22. He remained in the game at the time but did not return after the second intermission. He began working out a few weeks later but concussion symptoms forced him to stop. He's been working out in recent weeks but has not yet resumed skating.
Last year, the Bruins shut down Marc Savard for the season on Feb. 7 after he suffered a concussion on, coincidentally, Jan. 22. The Bruins may have been quicker to make that decision because Savard's first concussion from the previous March was more severe than the concussion Horton sustained in June. Also, ending Savard's season in early February allowed the Bruins flexibility at the trade deadline. With no such situation facing the Bruins now, there's no rush or need to make any official announcement.
Horton was knocked out of the Stanley Cup Final in Game 3 on a hit from Aaron Rome. He was able to recover in time to be in the lineup for the B's season opener in October, and he scored 17 goals and added 15 assists in the 46 games he did play this season.
