Orioles Hire Dan Duquette
BOSTON (CBS) – According to multiple reports, the Baltimore Orioles are set to hire former Red Sox general manager Dan Duquette as their next GM.
Duquette served as Red Sox general manager for eight years before being dismissed prior to the 2002 season. In his time with the Sox, he led the team to an AL East title in 1995 and wild card berths in 1998 and 1999.
The Orioles are expected to hold a press conference announcing the deal early this week.
Some of Duquette's most notable moves with Boston came in 1997, when he traded for ace Pedro Martinez and sent reliever Heathcliff Slocumb to the Mariners for Derek Lowe and Jason Varitek. Many of Duquette's signings and moves, including Johnny Damon and Manny Ramirez, played large rolls in Boston's World Series title in 2004.
After being let go by Boston, Duquette started a sports academy for children in Hinsdale, MA.
