Report: Dennis Wideman Signs Five-Year Deal With Flames Worth $26.25 Million
BOSTON (CBS) -- How much is Dennis Wideman worth? The answer, if you're in Boston, likely involves curse words but ultimately translates to "not very much." The answer in Calgary, though, is a lot different.
According to TSN, the Flames traded a defenseman and a draft pick to acquire Wideman on Wednesday, then immediately signed him to a five-year contract worth $26.25 million, which carries a $5.25 cap hit each season.
Wideman showed tremendous promise in his first two full seasons in Boston, when he recorded 36 points in 2007-08 and 50 points the following year, posting a plus-43 rating in those 160 games. He took a major step backward in 2009-10, though, finishing with just 30 points and a minus-14 rating.
The Bruins traded him to Florida, netting them Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell.
Last year with Washington, Wideman posted 11-35-46 totals and a minus-8 rating in 82 games before posting 0-3-3 totals and a minus-7 rating in 14 postseason games.
