Report: Clippers Seek Owner OK For Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett Trade
BOSTON (CBS) – Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett could end up with the Los Angeles Clippers before the end of the day.
According to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the on-again, off again deal with the Boston Celtics is back on again, thanks to Clippers free agent guard Chris Paul.
Earlier this week, Clippers management rejected a deal from the Celtics that would have sent Rivers and Garnett to L.A. in exchange for center DeAndre Jordan and two first-round draft picks.
The Clippers reportedly wanted to give up just one draft pick, Celtics president Danny Ainge refused to budge and the deal was dead.
According to Wojnarowski:
"After the talks stalled on Tuesday morning, Paul communicated to the Clippers that the hiring of Rivers and acquisition of Garnett would be essential to his re-signing as a free agent in July, sources said."
Clippers management was going to meet with owner Donald Sterling Wednesday night in Los Angeles, according to Wojnarowski, and if he approved, the deal would be finalized Thursday.
Stay tuned.
