Report: Celtics Aren't Interested In Dwight Howard
BOSTON (CBS) -- It figures to be a busy week for Danny Ainge and the Celtics leading up to Thursday's trade deadline, but Dwight Howard reportedly won't be playing any part.
According to The Boston Globe's Adam Himmelsbach, the Celtics are not interested in acquiring the Houston big man, despite his availability via trade being widely reported.
"The Celtics currently have almost no interest in trading for Howard, 30, a talented center with a history of back issues and a questionable work ethic," Himmelsbach wrote. "He can opt out of his contract at season's end, and even if he wanted to re-sign with Boston, the team would have reservations about offering a long-term deal. Also, Howard is not viewed as a player who would help attract another top free agent to Boston this summer."
Additionally, Himmelsbach said that while the Celtics very much like Hawks forwad Al Horford, the C's are unlikely to mortgage their future to acquire him from Atlanta. If "the asking price for Horford somehow plummets, he could potentially reemerge as an option for Boston," Himmelsbach reported. "But right now that prospect is unlikely."
The Celtics entered the all-star break with a 32-23 record, placing them third in the Eastern Conference.
