Carlton Fisk Arrested, Charged With DUI
BOSTON (CBS) -- Carlton Fisk, the Baseball Hall of Famer whose number has been retired by the Boston Red Sox, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of driving under the influence.
New Lenox (Ill.) police received several calls Monday night around 7:20 p.m. of a vehicle in a cornfield. When police arrived, they found Fisk allegedly asleep behind the wheel of his pickup truck with a flat tire. They also found an open bottle of vodka inside the vehicle.
Fisk was transported to Silver Cross Hospital via ambulance, and he was later charged with DUI, lane use violation and illegal transportation of alcohol. He is due in court Nov. 29.
TMZ reported Fisk refused to take a blood-alcohol test and he was released on Tuesday morning.
Fisk spent parts of 11 seasons (1,078 games) with the Boston Red Sox, hitting .284 and being named an All-Star seven times. The Red Sox retired Fisk's number in 2000, and in 2005 named the left field foul pole after him for his memorable home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. He wears a Red Sox hat on his Hall of Fame plaque, despite the fact that he played more games for the Chicago White Sox.
