Canadiens Trade P.K. Subban To Predators For Shea Weber
BOSTON (CBS) -- Just minutes after the NHL world was shocked by the Taylor Hall-to-New Jersey trade, an even bigger bit of news broke, as P.K. Subban was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Nashville Predators.
The Predators will send Shea Weber to Montreal to complete the deal.
Subban, 27, has played with Montreal since the 2009-10 season, compiling 278 points (63-215-278) from the blue line in 434 games played, as well as 38 points in 55 playoff games. Subban won the Norris Trophy in 2013, and he's under contract for six more years at a cap hit of $9 million.
"P.K. Subban is an elite offensive defenseman with tremendous skill and contagious energy that makes the Nashville Predators a better team now and into the future," Predators president David Poile said. "Superstar defensemen of his caliber are a rare commodity, and we are thrilled to add him to the organization."
Weber, who turns 31 in August, has compiled 443 points in 763 games played, with another 28 points in 55 playoff games. Weber has twice finished second in Norris Trophy voting. Weber is under contract for the next 10 seasons at a cap hit of $7.86 million.
