BU Men's Hockey Coach Jack Parker To Announce Retirement
BOSTON (CBS) - It appears Boston University may be nearing the end of an era.
After 40 years coaching men's hockey at the school, Jack Parker is set to announce his retirement on Monday, his 68th birthday.
Parker was born in Somerville and played high school hockey at Catholic Memorial before a college career with the Terriers.
His first win as the team's head coach was way back in December of 1973. This past Friday, Parker claimed his 894th career victory, the most by any coach with one school.
In his time as coach, BU has won three NCAA National Titles and 21 Beanpot Championships.
His legacy took a hit recently after two players were charged with sexual assault and a report commissioned by the school detailed inappropriate incidents involving the hockey team. Parker was later stripped of his title as Executive Athletic Director.
BU has scheduled a press conference regarding the hockey program and Parker's future for 3 p.m. on Monday. The Terriers will play their Hockey East tournament opener on Friday against Merrimack.
