Report: Bruins Owner Jeremy Jacobs Interested In Buying The Buffalo Bills
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, a Buffalo native whose Delaware North Companies are headquartered in the region, is reportedly "in play" as a potential buyer of the Buffalo Bills according to a story in the Buffalo News.
Bills founder Ralph Wilson passed away last month at the age of 95 and the Wilson family is looking to sell the team to someone that will keep the franchise in western New York.
One hurdle for the Jacobs family is that NFL rules prohibit teams from being owned by people who own franchises in other sports leagues, unless that other team is located in the same city as the NFL franchise (one example is Tom Benson, who owns the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans).
Of course, this would not exclude Jacobs' children (three sons, three daughters) from owning the Bills (or Bruins) if they could get creative in the paperwork.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich program discussed the news on Monday morning and offered differing viewpoints.
Fred thinks Bruins fans will be ticked off if the sale goes through to Jacobs, much like Red Sox fans were peeved when John Henry bought Liverpool. However, Rich contends that the Henry example should be comforting to Bruins fans because the Red Sox just won the World Series and Liverpool is first in the English Premier League.
