Bruins Acquire Wade Redden At Trade Deadline
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins waited about as long as possible before finally making a deal on deadline day, reportedly acquiring Wade Redden.
The Bruins traded for the veteran defenseman, sending a conditional seventh-round pick in 2014 to St. Louis in the deal.
CSNNE's Joe Haggerty first reported the deal via Twitter shortly after the 3 p.m. deadline.
"Wade obviously played in Ottawa when I worked in Ottawa so I had to get the band back together with him and [Zdeno] Chara," Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said. "I talked to Wade and he was willing to be part of our depth here and he's excited to come here."
Redden, 35, is in his 14th NHL season. He posted just five points, (two goals, three assists) and a minus-2 for St. Louis this season. He spent the 2010-11 season in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack, where he posted 8-34-42 totals and a minus-1 rating in 70 games. He then captained the team (changed to the Connecticut Whale) the following year before the Rangers bought him out this past January. He signed with the Blues later that month.
Redden has spent 838 games in his 1,017-game career with the Ottawa Senators, including six seasons as Zdeno Chara's teammate. In Ottawa, Redden averaged nine goals and 28 assists per season. He led the league in plus-minus in the 2005-06 season with a plus-35 rating.
The pick sent to St. Louis becomes a sixth-round pick if Redden plays in one or more playoff games this season.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Bruins made a minor trade with Chicago, swapping Maxime Sauve for Rob Flick.
