Report: Andrew Bailey Going On DL For Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) -- The unofficial second half of the season for the Red Sox will kick off with a roster move, and it's not one the team wanted to make.
The Red Sox are placing reliever Andrew Bailey on the 15-day disabled list due to an injured shoulder. Peter Gammons first reported the news.
Bailey, 29, had turned a corner of sorts recently, pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the month of July after posting a 4.63 ERA in his first 26 appearances this season.
Bailey has already spent time on the disabled list this season due to a biceps injury.
The Red Sox host the Yankees on Friday night for the first of a three-game set at Fenway Park.
The team announced it signed veteran relievers Jose Contreras and Brandon Lyon on Friday, assigning both pitchers to Triple-A Pawtucket.
