Reliever Dan Wheeler Declines Arbitration
BOSTON (CBS) – Reliever Dan Wheeler will decline salary arbitration from the Red Sox, according to the Providence Journal.
Wheeler, who made $3 million in 2011, went 2-2 with a 4.38 ERA in 47 appearances with Boston in 2011. He spent time on the DL to begin and end the season, but was able to put together some strong numbers in between. He posted an ERA of 1.80 from June to August, allowing just six runs in 30 innings pitched.

The Red Sox had a team option on Wheeler, but declined to pick it up at the end of the season. If the right-handed reliever signs with another team, Boston would receive a draft pick as compensation.
The Red Sox also offered salary arbitration to DH David Ortiz, who is expected to accept the offer by Wednesday night's deadline.
