Relief Arrives: Red Sox Activate Junichi Tazawa
BOSTON (CBS) -- A key reinforcement has arrived for the Red Sox bullpen.
Boston activated reliever Junichi Tazawa from the 15-day disabled list on Friday, after the righty missed over two weeks with a right shoulder impingement.
Tazawa, a key component to Boston's pen the last five seasons, has made 35 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season, going 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA and 37 strikeouts. He's issued just eight walks and held opponents to a .215 average this season, with lefties hitting just .151 (eight-for-53) against him.
The bullpen could certainly use another reliable arm, with fill-in closer Koji Uehara joining closer Craig Kimbrel on the DL earlier this week.
