[photogallerylink id=22058 align=right]The Red Sox opened up a 3-game series with the A.L. East leading Tampa Bay Rays with a 6-1 win. Clay Buchholz (6-3) struckout 8 over 6 innings to earn the victory. David Ortiz (9) and Kevin Youkilis (10) both homered for Boston.
For Tampa; Wade Davis (4-4) took the loss going just 3.2 inning allowing 5 runs. Carlos Pena hit his 8th HR of the season.
Victor Martinez left the game in the 3rd inning with a bruised left big toe, x-rays were negative.
The Sox and Rays play the middle of three Tuesday night with a pitching match up of Jon Lester vs. James Shields. First pitch is at 7:10pm.
