Red Sox Interview Yankees Coach Tony Pena
BOSTON (CBS) – The Boston Red Sox interviewed New York Yankees coach Tony Pena Monday for their vacant manager's position on monday, a Major League baseball source confirmed to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
Pena was a catcher for 18 years in the majors, including four years with the Red Sox from 1990 to 1993.
He managed the Kansas City Royals from 2002 to 2005 and was the American League Manager of The Year in 2003.
He's currently the Yankees bench coach under Joe Girardi.
Pena's son, Tony Pena, Jr. is a pitcher in the Red Six minor league system.
The Red Sox have been active in their search for a new manager, interviewing Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach last week, and will have former Astros catcher Brad Ausmus in for an interview early this week.
