Red Sox Set To Split Against Jays And Rays
BOSTON (CBS) - It's a great day for baseball -- at least in Florida -- so why not play two?
The Red Sox will play a pair split-squad games on Monday, facing the Blue Jays in Dunedin and the Rays in Port Charlotte and Tampa Bay Rays in Sarasota.
New Boston manager John Farrell will head to Dunedin to face his former team while Bench Coach Torey Lovullo will manage the squad in Port Charlotte.
It will be a battle of knuckleballers in Dudedin, with Steven Wright getting the start for Boston against Toronto's R.A. Dickey -- the reigning NL Cy Young winner. After Wright makes his first appearance of the spring, righties Allen Webster and Chris Carpenter are slated to do the same.
In Port Charlotte against the Rays, Alfredo Aceves will get the start with lefty Chris Hernandez, Daniel Bard and righy Terry Doyle set to follow.
Monday will be Bard's first appearance against Major League talent, as he pitched an inning last week against the Northeaster Huskies when he allowed one hit and struck out three.
The Red Sox have only one other split-squad day on the schedule March 15 when they face off against the Baltimore Orioles in a day game in Sarasota before hosting the Twins at JetBlue Park later that night.
