Sandoval Hurt Swinging At Pitch That Hit Him

BOSTON (CBS) -- Thursday was another rough night for Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

For the second straight night, Sandoval had to exit the game early. He left Boston's 8-2 win over the White Sox in the fourth inning after being hit by a pitch in the left forearm -- a pitch he swung at for strike three.

Sandoval was in obvious pain following the at-bat, and was replaced by newly acquired infielder Josh Rutledge at third. X-Rays came back negative, and revealed Sandoval only sustained a contusion on the play.

It's been a tough first season in Boston for Sandoval, who signed a five-year, $95-million deal with the Red Sox in the offseason. He's hitting just .260 with 34 RBIs in 92 games, and has 12 errors in the field, one more than he had all last season with the San Francisco Giants.
