Red Sox Release Bobby Jenks
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox announced Tuesday that they have released Bobby Jenks and placed him on unconditional release waivers.
Jenks, 31, signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the Red Sox prior to the 2011 season. He only made 19 appearances, though, as he went on the disabled list in July and never returned. In September, he was diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, and he underwent surgery to remove bone spurs in his back in the offseason. That surgery had complications, forcing him to undergo emergency surgery to prevent spinal fluid from leaking.
In March, he was arrested in Florida for driving under the influence, reportedly of muscle relaxers.
Jenks posted a 2-2 record with a 6.32 ERA and 2.234 WHIP with the Red Sox, significantly worse numbers than his career ERA of 3.53 and WHIP of 1.251.
