Red Sox Recall Reliever Atchison, Option Bowden
BOSTON (CBS) - Heading into their weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Boston Red Sox have recalled righty reliever Scott Atchison from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Michael Bowden has been optioned back to the minors.
This will be Atchison's third call-up of the season. The 35-year-old has appeared in seven games with Boston in 2011, posting a 4.73 ERAwith nine strikeouts and just two walks. He pitched in 17 games with Pawtucket, including one start, going 2-1 with a 1.39 ERA, 37 strikeouts, three walks and two saves.
Atchison picked up the first major league save of his career with three perfect innings in Boston's 15-5 win over the Cubs on May 20.
