Red Sox' Ortiz, Bogaerts & Bradley Jr. Lead In AL All-Star Voting
BOSTON (CBS) -- As a team, the Red Sox won't travel to San Diego until early September. But it looks like a handful of Boston's best will be making a trip to Petco Park much sooner.
Major League Baseball released the updated numbers for this summer's All-Star Game on Tuesday, and a trio of Red Sox lead their respective positions.
With just over two weeks remaining for fans to submit their votes, David Ortiz has a monstrous lead over Kendrys Morales by nearly 1.2 million votes. Ortiz's 2,015,043 votes are second among AL vote-getters, trailing only Royals catcher Salvador Perez's 2,063,459 tallies.
At shortstop, Xander Bogaerts holds an edge over KC's Alcides Escobar, 1,541,180 to 958,750.
Jackie Bradley Jr. is the second-highest vote-getter among AL outfielders, trailing only Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout. If voting ended today, Bradley Jr. would make up the AL outfield along with Trout and Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain.
Mookie Betts isn't too far from joining that group, currently fifth among AL outfielders with 1,069,912 votes. He trails Baltimore's Mark Trumbo by just over 40,000 votes after surpassing Toronto's Jose Bautista in the last week.
Elsewhere on the Boston roster, Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia both rank fourth at their positions, with injured catcher/outfielder Blake Swihart fifth in the voting for backstops.
Fans can vote for who they think should make up the All-Star squads online until June 30. The 87th All-Star Game will be played on June 12 in San Diego.
