Red Sox Opening Day Forecast
BOSTON (CBS) - Playing baseball in early April can be a bit of an adventure in New England. We have seen just about everything over the years at Fenway Park for the Red Sox home openers. Some of the most notable weather on Opening Day at Fenway include…
-April 8, 1988 and April 5th, 2010 (last year) temperatures topped out at a balmy 72 degrees, the warmest temps on opening day in last 3 decades
-April 13, 1984 a frigid day, a high of only 42 degrees, the coldest high temperature in recent history
-April 9, 1996 0.6" of snow…and 2 years on April 10, 1998 a mix of rain and snow
-April 11, 2003 & April 6, 2009 were both rained out
As for this year…it will be a fairly "normal" opening day at Fenway. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny, but a wind off the water (east-southeast 5-15mph) will bring a chill to the Park, high temps likely in the 45-48 range. That wind direction comes right in from right field at Fenway, likely cutting down the chances of many home runs, especially to right.
