Red Sox On Bin Laden Death: Crawford Wanted To 'Celebrate'
BOSTON (CBS) - Even as the Red Sox were at Fenway Park to promote their new Dunkin Donuts advertising campaign, news of Osama bin Laden's death was still a hot topic.
"What happened to our country 10-years ago, this puts a lot of closure to what went on," said Dustin Pedroia about the events of September 11th, 2001. "I think everyone's reaction is pretty much the same."
"This is great for America," said David Ortiz. "I think a lot of people's lives are going to be peaceful."
"I was at my house," David Ortiz recalled about hearing the news. "I think it's great for America. I'm pretty sure a lot of people had their family go through the situation in 2001 are very happy about it."
Red Sox Reaction To Bin Laden's Death
"I was happy like everyone else, proud to be an American," said Carl Crawford. "I was like 'it's about time.'"
Crawford even wanted to join in the on-street celebrations that popped up in Boston and around the country.
"They were showing CNN and people celebrating," he said. "I was wondering if that was going on around here somewhere, I was going to go out and celebrate too."

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez did not hear the news until the players were asked about it from fans. He did not have an immediate reaction, but stressed how much he appreciates the
"We're extremely grateful for everybody that's over seas, keeping us here safe," he said. "It really puts in perspective what we do. How they're the ones that are really out there in the ground and the battle."

"We can't help but to be grateful and appreciative for everything they do," said Gonzalez.
