Middlebrooks Shines In Texas Homecoming

BOSTON (CBS) - Will Middlebrooks returned to his home state of Texas this week, and put on a show for family and friends.

The Red Sox rookie, who grew up just over a half-an-hour away from The Ballpark in Arlington, went 6-for-12 in Boston's three-game set with the Rangers, logging two hits in each game including his 12th home run of the season on Wednesday night.

But for Middlebrooks, the only numbers that matter are the number of wins in the standings.

"It was a decent series, but we lost two-of-three. We're here to win games," said Middlebrooks following Boston's 5-3 loss on Wednesday.

Still, he enjoyed having numerous family and friends in the stands as he played his first games in Texas since high school; especially since they got to see him go yard.

"It was a lot of fun. It would have been more fun if we could have won, but it was fun to play in front of my friends and family," he said.

"He's been swinging the bat well. I'm glad the first time playing at home he had a good series," said manager Bobby Valentine. "He's hitting the change-up now; he hit it for a home run. It seems like he's over another hump."

Middlebrooks is now batting .297 for the season, and is sixth on the team with 43 RBI.
