Joel Hanrahan Undergoes Tommy John Surgery
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Red Sox reliever Joel Hanrahan underwent Tommy John surgery, the team announced on Thursday.
In addition to the Tommy John surgery, Hanrahan also had his right flexor tendon repaired by the famous Dr. James Andrews in Florida.
Recovery from Tommy John surgery typically takes 12-16 months.
Boston acquired Hanrahan from the Pittsburgh Pirates in the off-season with the hopes he would be their closer. He struggled to start the season, going four-for-six in save opportunities with a 9.82 ERA, and made two DL trips before being shut down for the season.
