Red Sox Host Pirates In 2017 Season Opener, Welcome Cubs To Fenway Park In April
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox are still eyeing a World Series title in 2016, but Boston fans already have a reason to look toward next season.
The 2017 Boston Red Sox schedule was released on Wednesday, and includes a rare visit from a few National League foes.
The Red Sox will open the season at home for the first time in the last six years, hosting a three-game set with the Pittsburgh Pirates from April 3-6. It marks just the second trip to historic Fenway Park for Pittsburgh despite the team being around for over a century.
The Red Sox have 15 home games scheduled in April, but it's the end of the month that will have fans rushing to get tickets. From April 28-30, Boston will host a highly anticipated three-game series against the Chicago Cubs, who are making their first trip to Fenway since 2014.
In addition to the Pirates and Cubs, the Red Sox will also host a two-game interleague series against the St. Louis Cardinals on August 15 and 16. Boston hits the road for interleague matchups with Milwaukee (May 9-11), St. Louis (May 16-17), Philadelphia (June 14-15) and Cincinnati (September 22-24).
Boston's first showdown with the New York Yankees will come early in the season, with a three-game set at Fenway from April 25-27. They don't make their first trip to New York until June 6, when they visit Yankee Stadium for a three-game series.
The Red Sox play more games at Yankee Stadium and Oriole Park at Camden Yards (10 each) than any other road venue in 2017.
Boston will their 2017 regular season with seven straight home games; a three-game series against the Blue Jays and a four-game set with the Houston Astros.
