Red Sox Hire Frank Wren As Senior VP Of Baseball Operations

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox have added another cook to their front office kitchen.

One day after naming Mike Hazen the team's new general manager, the Red Sox announced the hiring of long-time baseball man Frank Wren as the team's new senior VP of baseball operations.

The 57-year-old Wren comes to Boston with over 30 years of front office experience. Wren spent seven seasons as executive vice president/general manager for the Atlanta Braves from 2008-14, part of a 15-year tenure with that organization beginning in October 1999.  He also previously served as general manager for the Baltimore Orioles in 1999.

According to the team, Wren will serve as a talent evaluator and will assist president Dave Dombrowski in all aspects of baseball operations. He and Dombrowski previously worked together with the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins organizations from 1987-98. Dombrowski hired Wren to serve as vice president/general manager of the Florida Marlins in 1991, and the two helped guide the franchise to a 1997 World Series championship.

A former outfielder, Wren also played in Montreal's minor league system from 1977-82.
