Rehab Put On Hold: Red Sox' Eduardo Rodriguez Suffers Setback
BOSTON (CBS) -- Eduardo Rodriguez's road to recovery hit a massive speed bump on Tuesday.
The Red Sox are halting Rodriguez's rehab stint after the pitcher told the club he is still experiencing soreness in his right knee.
"It's something he came to us (with)," Boston manager John Farrell told reporters in Kansas City on Tuesday. "We were trying to evaluate the performances and talk to him about what he was feeling and talk to him about what we'd like to see, if possible, and that's where he revealed, that, he's on occasion feeling this."
Rodriguez, who was rehabbing with Triple A Pawtucket, first hurt his knee in Spring Training back on February 27. He made four starts for the PawSox, allowing 12 runs (10 earned) in 21 innings while striking out 10.
"We felt all along, with the progression he was making in terms of the number of pitches thrown and some increase in velocity, he was making some satisfactory progress," said Farrell. "But he has admitted to feeling some occasional discomfort, and we don't want to push it right now."
The Sox will rest their young lefty for a few days before he throws a bullpen on Friday, but they have not yet decided on when he'll make his next rehab start. Rodriguez will have 11 days remaining in his rehab stint when he does return to the mound for Pawtucket.
Farrell said he and the Boston brass "fully expect" Rodriguez to pitch in the Majors this season.
