Dempster Suspended 5 Games For Throwing At A-Rod
BOSTON (CBS) - Major League Baseball suspended Red Sox starter Ryan Dempster for five games on Tuesday for intentionally throwing at New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez over the weekend.
Demspter hit Rodriguez in the second inning of Sunday night's loss to the Yankees, setting off an angry scene at Fenway that caused New York manager Joe Girardi to get ejected.
Both Dempster and Girardi were also fined undisclosed amounts.
After throwing behind Rodriguez with his first pitch of the at-bat, two more inside pitches followed before Dempster plunked A-Rod on the left elbow. Home plate umpire Brian O'Nora quickly issued warnings to the Boston and New York benches, enraging Girardi.

After the game Dempster said he did not hit Rodriguez intentionally, but Bud Selig and others saw things differently.
The Red Sox have been one of the more outspoken team since Rodriguez was slapped with a 211-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogensis scandal, upset that he is allowed to play as he appeals the suspension.
