Red Sox Clear Room For Peavy, Send Down De La Torre, Workman
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox made a pair of roster moves on Thursday, making room for new acquisition Jake Peavy.
To clear a spot for Peavy on the 25-man roster, right-handed reliever Jose De La Torre was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.
The team also recalled right-handed reliever Steven Right from Pawtucket, optioning started Brandon Workman to the PawSox (a move that was made following Wednesday night's 5-4, 15-inning win over the Mariners).

The 28-year-old Wright has two stints with the Red Sox this year, going 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA, seven strikeouts, and six walks in 9.1 innings pitched. He earned his first major league win on July 11 -- his last Major League game -- hurling 5.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen against the Mariners. Wright has spent the majority of the 2013 season with Pawtucket, going 5-6 with a 3.89 ERA with 81 strikeouts in 19 starts.
Rookie De La Torre appeared in seven games for the Red Sox this season, all in relief. He has no record with a 6.35 ERA with 10 walks and 15 strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched. He is 3-1 with a save and 1.74 ERA in 24 games for Pawtucket this season, striking out 49 while holding opponents to a .146 batting average.

Workman picked up his first career win on Tuesday night, and went 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA in four games with Boston. He made three starts, posting a 2.45 ERA (5 ER/18.1 innings pitched) while striking out 18. He has also combined to go 8-2 with a 3.21 ERA (36 ER/101.0 IP), 30 walks, and 108 strikeouts in 17 games (16 starts) between Double-A Portland and Pawtucket this season.
It's not clear when Peavy will make his Red Sox debut, but manager John Farrell hinted his first start with Boston will likely come Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
