Red Sox Announce 25-Man Roster; Bradley To Start Opening Day
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox announced their 25-man roster for 2013, and outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is on it. Manager John Farrell says he will start on Opening Day against the Yankees.
The Sox got the roster down to 25 by placing pitchers Craig Breslow and Franklin Morales, and DH David Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22. Infielder Maura Gomez was designated for assignment.
The 2013 Opening Day roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, six infielders and five outfielders.
Here is the Red Sox Opening Day roster:
PITCHERS (12): Alfredo Aceves, Andrew Bailey, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, Felix Doubront, Joel Hanrahan, John Lackey, Jon Lester, Andrew Miller, Clayton Mortensen, Junichi Tazawa, and Koji Uehara.
CATCHERS (2): David Ross and Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
INFIELDERS (6): Mike Carp, Pedro Ciriaco, Jose Iglesias, Will Middlebrooks, Mike Napoli, and Dustin Pedroia.
OUTFIELDERS (5): Jackie Bradley Jr., Jacoby Ellsbury, Jonny Gomes, Daniel Nava, and Shane Victorino.
Boston opens the season Monday against the Yankees in New York. Manager John Farrell named Jon Lester his opening day starter earlier this week.
