Red Sox ALCS Rotation: Buchholz To Start Game 2, Lackey Gets Game 3

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox switched up their rotation just a little bit for the ALCS against the Detroit Tigers.

Manager John Farrell announced earlier this week that lefty Jon Lester will once again get the nod in Game 1, which is Saturday night at Fenway. But on Friday, the team announced Clay Buchholz and John Lackey will switch turns, with Buchholz taking the mound in Game 2 on Sunday and Lackey getting the call in Game 3 at Comerica Park on Tuesday. Jake Peavy will once again get the start in Game 4.

Chances are Lackey will have to match up against Tigers ace Justin Verlander, who threw eight shutout innings against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night to clinch Detroit's spot in the ALCS.

Boston pitched Lackey in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Rays at Fenway after he struggled on the road during the regular season, going 4-10 with a 4.48 ERA in 16 starts.  In one start at Comerica this season, Lackey surrendered just two earned runs over seven innings of work while striking out five, earning a no decision in a 4-3 Boston loss.

Buchholz did not face the Tigers during the regular season, but has a 2-1 record with a 3.58 ERA in eight career starts against them.

Peavy allowed four runs over seven innings in his only start against Detroit this season, which came as a member of the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers have not announced their rotation yet, but are expected to start Anibal Sanchez in Game 1, and 21-game winner Max Scherzer in Game 2.
