Red Sox Agree To 4-Year Contract Extension With Reliever Garrett Whitlock

BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox have agreed to a 4-year contract extension with versatile reliever Garrett Whitlock.

The deal runs from 2023-26 for Whitlock, who led the Red Sox with a 1.96 ERA last season in a team-high 73.1 relief innings.

Boston selected Whitlock from the Yankees in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft.

During the 2021 postseason, Whitlock pitched in five games and went 1-0 with a 2.16 ERA.

Whitlock's extension includes club options for 2027 and 2028.

Sources told WBZ-TV's Dan Roche the deal comes with a $1 million signing bonus. Sources said the contract is worth $3.25 million in 2024, $5.25 million in 2025, and $7.25 million in 2026.
