Ortiz 2-4, 2 RBI In Return To Red Sox
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox activated DH David Ortiz from the disabled prior to Friday's game against the Royals, and "Big Papi" made an immediate impact.
Batting fourth for Boston, Ortiz finished the night 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ortiz drove in both of his runs in the bottom of the first with a 2-run single to put Boston on top 2-0.
Ortiz missed 35 games after being placed on the DL in mid-July with a right Achilles strain. Boston's lone All-Star this season has a team-leading 23 home runs, 60 RBI and 26 doubles in 89 games.
The Sox DH extended his hitting streak to a career high 12-games. Ortiz is batting 17-for-39 with two doubles, two homers and six RBI over the streak.
To make room for Ortiz, the Red Sox optioned right-handed pitcher Junichi Tazawa to Triple-A Pawtucket.
