Red Sox Acquire Burke Badenhop In Trade, Fill Final Spot On 40-Man Roster
BOSTON (CBS) -- The World Series champions made a trade on Friday, albeit a minor one, with the Red Sox acquiring right-handed pitcher Burke Badenhop from the Brewers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Luis Ortega.
The acquisition of Badenhop fills the final spot on the Red Sox' 40-man roster.
Badenhop, 30, posted a 3.47 ERA in 62.1 innings of relief for the Brewers last season. He walked just 12 batters all year long while striking out 42 batters, and he has a 2.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his career. He's played for the Marlins, Rays and Brewers in his six-year career.
Ortega, 20, is a left-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic. He spent the 2013 season with the rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox, where he went 3-3 with a 2.45 ERA in 12 games.
