Red Sox Acquire 1B/OF Mike Carp From Mariners
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox got a little more depth at first base on Wednesday.
The Red Sox have acquired first baseman/outfielder Mike Carp from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations, the team announced Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Carp hit .213 with six doubles, five home runs, and 20 RBIs in 59 games for the Mariners in 2012, but missed 78 games due to three trips to the disabled list. Between 37 minor league rehab games with Triple-A Tacoma and High-A High Desert, the left-hander hit .250 with nine doubles, three home runs and 21 RBIs. Over his final 25 games of the season in the majors, Carp hit .293 with three doubles, a home run, and seven RBIs.

Originally a ninth-round selection of the New York Mets in the 2004 June Draft, Carp has hit .255 with 28 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, and 71 RBI in 173 games in his major league career.
