Red Cross seeks blood donors during hot spell
The American Red Cross is reminding people to keep and make appointments to donate blood during the current hot spell in the northeast.
It says the need for blood does not decline with the heat and volunteer donors are needed at a time that traditionally sees a drop in donations.
During the school year, donations from high school and college students account for about 15 percent of Red Cross blood collections. In the summer, students become much more difficult to reach.
As an extra incentive, the Red Cross is offering donors in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, as well as parts of Pennsylvania and New York a coupon for a free carton of Friendly's ice cream during July.
