Record High Temperatures Posted In Northeast
HARTFORD, Conn. (CBS/AP) — The National Weather Service reported Sunday that temperatures in Hartford, Conn., Providence, R.I., and Worcester, Mass., hit record highs for the day.
The Weather Service reported Hartford reached 64 degrees on Sunday, breaking the previous record for Dec. 22 of 59 degrees set in 1990.
The temperature in Providence rose to 64 degrees, breaking the old record of 61 degrees on Dec. 22, 1990.
It got up to 63 degrees in Worcester, tying a record for the day that was set in 1923. Several Massachusetts communities west and south of Boston posted temperatures above 60 degrees.
Temperatures also hit record highs in other Northeast cities including New York City, Philadelphia, and Atlantic City, N.J. It was 71 degrees in New York on Sunday, topping the previous mark of 63 degrees set in 1998.
