Realtor: Lowell Tops List Of Hottest Home Sales In Massachusetts In 2014
BOSTON (CBS) - While home sales may have dipped 1 percent in Massachusetts and 3 percent nationally last year, there are several communities in the state that are doing well.
Of 351 communities in Massachusetts, McGeough Lamacchia Realty Inc. compiled a list of the top 25 in overall home sales in 2014.
To make the list, more than 200 homes needed to be sold in a community.
Lowell (up 9.5 percent), Scituate (9.3), Waltham (8.9), Centerville (8.6) and Chicopee (8.3) comprise the top five communities that saw the largest increases in 2014 compared to 2013, according to Anthony Lamacchia of McGeough Lamacchia Realty Inc.
"The thing about overall home sales being up is it's usually a sign of appreciation to come," he said. "We tend to see home sales go up and prices go up right behind it or along with it, so it's a very good sign for these five towns."
Lamacchia told WBZ-TV that the real estate market was "off to a busy start considering it was January, until about 10 days ago when all these storms hit."
"Right now, we're in a slight lull and I expect it to last probably a week or two and then it should pick right back up again," he added.
The realtor sees positive trends in the market and anticipates 2015 being a good year for housing sales in the state.
"I feel very strong about it. There's a lot of things shaping up in the industry, from lending to buyers having more confidence in the overall economy and I think it's going to be an extremely strong year," Lamacchia said.
