Man Wanted For Reading, Tewksbury Carjackings May Have Robbed NH Bank

TEWKSBURY (CBS) – Police believe a man accused of carjacking a woman in Tewksbury and attempting to do the same a day later in Reading may have also robbed a New Hampshire bank.

Tewksbury Police released a photo of 32-year-old Michael Munroe of Raymond, N.H.

"(He's a) very dangerous criminal," Tewksbury Police Lt. Ryan Columbus told WBZ-TV's Bill Shields. "At this point, this is definitely an example of someone that's desperate through addiction and is very dangerous."

Munroe has evaded police in two different states for days, but his alleged crime spree is believed to have started weeks ago with a home invasion in Epping, New Hampshire.

The man who was attacked is fearful of what the suspect will do next.

"I was just sitting out back, playing with my iPod. I heard the door open so I looked up and two strangers came in," the victim said.

"They decided they were going to jump on me and steal what I had. I've lived here all my life and I didn't know what was going on. Really surprised me."

Police managed to catch up with their suspect, but tell WBZ they were forced to let Munroe go.

Little did anyone know he would allegedly go on to commit crimes – some of them violent - in Manchester, Ossipee, Tewksbury, Reading and Seabrook where Friday morning police say he held up a credit union.

Lorraine Soucy's heart is still pounding. She says she witnessed Munroe try to carjack a woman at a Reading Home Goods on Thursday and acted.

"So I started running. The woman yelled, 'call 911!' so I was running, calling 911, trying to tell them what was going on," Soucy said.

"We ran to the corner and then I stopped her because I realized this was dangerous."

Munroe got away, prompting a massive manhunt and shelter in place.

Detectives believe Munroe may be in the company of Rebecca Norton, 29, who has two outstanding warrants out for her arrested.

One warrant is for drug possession in Methuen and the second is for a parole violation out of Raymond, N.H.

Munroe had been arrested Tuesday and charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin at Wal-Mart in Tewksbury but he was released.

He is wanted on charges of carjacking, robbery and larceny over $250.

Anyone with information on Munroe's whereabouts is asked to call Tewksbury Police or 911.
