Stolen Bronze Statue Returned To Cambridge School After 32 Years
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - A rare bronze statue stolen 32 years ago has been returned.
Praying Knight was built by Artist Cyrus Dallin in 1929 as a memorial to eleven students from Cambridge Rindge and Latin killed in World War I. Dallin was also responsible for the Paul Revere statue in the North End.
Praying Knight disappeared from the school in 1980 during a renovation project at the school.
Recently a Somerville family inquired with a local art dealer for an appraisal of the statue.
The dealer contacted Heather Leavell, co-chair of the Cyrus Dallin Art Museum, who recognized the statue as stolen.
Cambridge police were notified. They contacted the family who had the statue. The family willingly turned over the statue to the school.
Police say no charges will be filed.
