Ramping Up...
Extreme lift from mid level cut-off is moving in and heavy bands are surging north. Incredible obs in and around NYC this evening...from nothing to 1/4s+ with the flip of a switch. In Niantic, CT (on LI Sound) when the rain flipped to snow the flakes were so big they were reported to be bigger than golfballs! This has me very concerned for power outages especially in SE Mass where theses flakes are going to cling to everything thanks to milder temps at the start...at the same time winds are picking up and most reporting sites are already gusting to 30+mph...this will be enough, coupled with the weight of the heavy snow to bring down limbs and lines. The most intense of the precip will fall along the South Coast due to some convective elements...in fact there have been several reports of thundersnow in Connecticut and that may occur here too...again especially in SE Mass. The snow for Boston...west and north should be lighter and fluffier getting just about everyone in that 6-10" zone with potential for some locally higher amounts.
